What is Hydration?
Hydration is giving your body a drink of water. Just like plants need water to grow and stay healthy, your body needs water to work properly. Water is super important for your body because it helps you do everything from thinking and playing to digesting your food. When you drink enough water, you’re helping your body stay happy and healthy! This is what hydration is all about – keeping your body refreshed with enough water.
Why is Hydration important?
Hydration is super important for many reasons! Think of your body like a car. Just like a car needs fuel to run, your body needs water to work properly. Here are some cool reasons why staying hydrated is a big deal:
Keeps You Energised: Water helps your muscles and joints work smoothly, so you can run, jump, and play without getting tired too quickly.
Helps Your Brain: Your brain loves water! It needs water to help you think, concentrate, and remember things. So, drinking water can make you a super learner!
Keeps You Cool: When you’re hot, your body sweats to cool you down. Water is needed to make sweat, so staying hydrated helps you stay cool, even on sunny days.
Good for Health: Water helps to carry nutrients to different parts of your body, keeping you strong and healthy. It also helps to get rid of waste in your body.
Prevents Thirst and Dryness: Without enough water, you might feel thirsty, your mouth might get dry, and you could get a headache. Drinking water keeps these problems away.
What you need to aim for?
Drink Enough Spring Water: Kids need different amounts of water based on their age and activities. Usually, younger kids need about 5-8 cups of water a day, and older kids need about 8-11 cups. But if you’re running around a lot or it’s a hot day, you might need more. Spring water is the most helpful for your body to work efficiently.
Listen to Your Body: If you’re thirsty, that’s your body’s way of saying, “Hey, I need water!” So, make sure to drink up when you feel thirsty.
Check Your Pee: Yep, you read that right! The color of your pee can tell you a lot about hydration. If it’s pale or light yellow, like lemonade, that’s good! If it’s dark, like apple juice, you probably need to drink more water.
Eat Hydrating Foods: Drinking water isn’t the only way to stay hydrated. Eating fruits and veggies, like watermelon, cucumbers, and oranges, can also help because they have lots of water in them.
Carry a Water Bottle: Having a water bottle with you is a great reminder to drink water throughout the day. Plus, it’s good for the environment because it reduces the use of plastic bottles.
